June 18 2009

I'm very bad at keeping things outside of my deviantArt account updated, apparently.

I was going to have my second semester backgrounds scanned and posted by now, but alas, they have been stuck at my aunt's place three hours from here since I moved out of residence. So until I can retrieve and scan them, have a small doodle I made while inspired by Mucha.

And yes, I realize that "thoughts" is still spelt wrong in my header. I swear I will get to fixing it someday when I remember it earlier than 3am.

March 30 /09

Hello again! I apologize for the lack of posts, but I find myself rather busy. Not to mention I haven't yet figured out how to post my animations, so I'm left with only backgrounds at the moment!

So here's one to hold you over until I can get more scanning and piecing together done. A background from a profile walk assignment using Bugs Bunny as the model.

Until next time, ciao!

Links!

Just thought I'd share a few links that fellow animators may find useful or interesting. :)

Animation Backgrounds
A blog filled with gorgeous backgrounds, pieced together and re-created from many popular movies and shows.

Animation Roadshow
A blog created and upkept by The Labyrinth bookstore in Toronto, ON.

As recommended by Ktshy on deviantArt:

Animation Podcast
The Animation Podcast is an amazing listen, host Clay Kaytis (Disney animator who's most recent credit is supervising the hamster in "Bolt") interviews a whole slew of Disney legends. You'll listen to the likes of Glen Keane (lead animator on Ariel, Aladdin, and Tarzan to name a few), Andreas Deja (Jafar, Hercules, Lilo), Nik Ranieri (Lumier, Hades, Kuzko), AND SO MUCH MORE! If you want to hear how these talented folks got into animation in the first place and gain little tips and tidbits of their animation knowledge, go listen!

Animation Meat
Animation Meat is an excellent tutorial source, with notes on storyboarding, layout, animation and a small collection of model sheets.

Cartoon Brew
Cartoon Brew is an animation blog, gives you the current goings-on in animation.

Cold Hard Flash
Cold Hard Flash is an animation news blog focused specifically on Flash Animation.

Asifa
Asifa is an animation archive with some amazing notes and a whole wealth of knowledge. Check out the "$100,000 Animation Drawing Course" on the right side link bar, it takes you to a collection of invaluable notes by Preston Blair on creating solidly constructed characters in animation and how to animate them properly.

Stuff!
I absolutely adore John K's blog. It's stuffed full of so much knowledge in animation and design...and it's always entertaining! (John K's the creator of "Ren & Stimpy" and the "Ripping Friends")

Image Post- Semester 1

Here are some of my favorite backgrounds and design work from first semester:
This was our final Design class project: design a "room with a personality," meaning create a room that only a certain type of person would live in. I chose to base this idea off of an original character of mine who is a college aged artist. (Which, I guess, means I almost designed this room for myself minus the fact I can't stand sleeping on a bunk bed).
This was for our Environmental studies class; we had to build a basic church out of foam core, and then use that base to draw a church of our own design (freehand, and we needed two different views of the church drawn within the limits of class time, which was three hours).
This was a background created for my final animation of the semester, a flour sack whose actions were based off of a scared Maurice from Beauty and the Beast.
This was another Environmental studies project; in groups of four we had to design a rectangular room of any type, and then each person would draw a separate corner. My group chose a retro styled diner kitchen, and I got the corner with the stove/ oven/ grill plate in it.

And that's all I have for today, folks. Feel free to leave a comment or share this blog with other people. I'd never mind having a little bit of free publicity!
